THE DAILY PLEDGE

Daily Pledge is an idea to better utilize popular websites to make social and environmental issues more present in our everyday lives. The goal is to have people constantly considering their actions, and learning new ways to live green. There are high traffic websites where people spend a lot of time every day that are very convenient mediums for sharing and spreading information, and that is what the Daily Pledge wants to tap into.Daily Pledge is not asking for any ground breaking new strategies to save the environment, but to just be aware of the environmental consequences of our decisions at all times. The Daily Pledge will focus on personal responsibility and explain why a commitment in our online lifestyles can be effective. The infrastructure and the users are there; everyone knows the internet has become a huge resource for us, and with a little more emphasis on the environment in certain places, it can really change peoples’ habits.

The project will make use of three different mediums on the internet:

  • Blogging – Anyone on the internet can view and reply to this blog. This space will act as a resource and base for the following parts of the idea. The blog can be updated daily to contain recent articles, links, and videos that address environmental issues.
  • Social Networking websites – Making a positive commitment in an online personal profile.
  • Video websites – If people have social and environmental issues on their minds more often, related content will be viewed and added to video websites, where there is potential to gain many views.
